Artists, Conservationists, Environmentalists And Nature Lovers! This Awe Inspiring…

The beach is my favorite place in the world! Always has been, always will be! Maybe it’s because I spent every summer of my childhood on the Jersey Shore with my family, or maybe it’s because I am a Pisces, a water sign. The ocean speaks to my soul. It draws me to it with some sort of magnetic force. (My husband thinks I’m crazy when I say that! haha) But if you get it, you get it!
After moving to our ninth state (and our third coast,) it was thrilling to discover Galveston Island and find the perfect place (Pointe West) to buy our beach condo. The far western end of the island is quiet, beautiful, full of wild life, amazing fishing and the nicest beaches in Texas! We’re really fortunate that Pointe West Beach is cleaned and maintained by the community, nevertheless, my husband requires that we take a trash bag with us EVERY time we go down to the beach, to pick-up any stray items.
Keeping our beaches and our oceans clean, is very important to both of us, as I’m sure it is to you as well. Meet these two incredible organizations that are doing amazing things, in unique ways, to clean up our oceans and create awareness of the dangers that plastic trash poses to both the environment, and our sea life!
The Washed Ashore Project creates and exhibits breathtaking, inspiring art to educate the world about plastic pollution in our oceans and waterways and to motivate people to change their habits. Their powerful art captivates all ages and teaches environmental conservation and sustainability.
I’m so excited that The Washed Ashore Project will be coming to Galveston, Texas on December 10, 2022 – March 5, 2023. According to Visit Galveston, “There will be 21 larger-than-life exhibits displayed throughout the island for free viewing at all locations for the first time in the US. These intricate, beautifully designed, giant sea life sculptures are made entirely of marine debris collected from beaches. If you’re up for a challenge, visit 15 or more to win a prize.” I can’t wait to see them all!

Creating awareness and inspiring change is the first part of the puzzle. The second is cleaning the plastic and other trash from our beaches, waterways and oceans. Enter 4Ocean! In their own words, “4ocean is an ocean cleanup company dedicated to ending the ocean plastic crisis. As a Public Benefit Corporation and Certified B Corp, we harness the power of business to fund a global cleanup operation that’s responsible for recovering millions of pounds of plastic and trash from the world’s oceans, rivers, and coastlines.” To date, this amazing company, that was started by two surfers, has pulled 25,598,439 pounds of trash from the ocean! To help fund their efforts, 4Ocean sells beach themed apparel and accessories. They started off by selling bracelets made from recycled glass beads and a plastic cord, with 100% of the plastic being pulled from the ocean. Each bracelet features a different colored string, a stainless steel charm and is dedicated to an animal or see creature.

What started off as a blog post to talk about an amazing art show coming to Galveston, has taken a turn for the better. When our entertainment and shopping can be enjoyable, and benefit incredible causes, that’s the very best of both worlds. Don’t you wish everything in life could work that way! I do!
